You will receive an introduction to traditional crafts such as log building, blacksmithing, and needle binding. We make tools, sew, and work with wood carving in the medieval farm "Stiklestadir"

You will work with traditional crafts such as log building, blacksmithing, and needle binding. We make tools, work with wool, and do wood carving.

The teaching takes place in unique surroundings in the workshops at the medieval farm Stiklastadir. We will also go on a two-week study trip in Norway.

Collaboration with Stiklestad National Cultural Center

We have classes both at Sund Folk High School and at Stiklestad, which is located 15 minutes from the school. At Stiklestad, most of the teaching takes place at the medieval farm Stiklastadir, both in the longhouse, outdoors, and in the various workshops.

We go out into the forest, start fires in the traditional way, and learn to find materials that we can shape into useful items. We learn to make our own tools, which we can use in further craftsmanship.

We try out medieval textile techniques, such as plant dyeing yarn and weaving bands. We will also live in the longhouse at Stiklestad so that you can experience firsthand what it was like to live in the Middle Ages. You will gain a broad introduction to historical crafts through practical work.

You will learn many different things

This semester, you will receive an introduction to various techniques and materials. Teachers Øystein, Kai, and Gunnhild have expertise in several areas of historical craftsmanship, such as textiles and leather, timberwork, blacksmithing, and woodwork. We work practically and learn through both failures and successes."
