This course is for those interested in international politics and relations, and who might want to work internationally, perhaps in the UN or other organizations in the future.
Understanding the World
In a world where significant events have a short lifespan in the media, and many compete for our attention, it is crucial to recognize the broader, more important patterns and try to understand why nations and leaders act as they do. What historical factors play a role, what relationships and rules govern their actions, and what are they truly trying to achieve? With knowledge, we can challenge the root causes of poverty and war, and find our own way to contribute positively. We fight discouragement with knowledge and concrete examples of things that truly make a difference.
Variety in Teaching and Methods
There are many paths to engagement and learning. Inspiring lectures, spontaneous and prepared discussions, films, projects, and information work are just some of the ways we learn. It is important to embrace variety, explore new methods, and challenge ourselves. When the world feels chaotic, trips into the forest, mountains, or out to sea can offer refreshing breaks during this year, and in the years to come. Excursions are part of the course's method because they provide variety, and mastering new challenges is essential. We use nature as a classroom.
Through short trips throughout the year, we also learn practical skills for adventure and achievement, as well as gaining an appreciation for the natural environment we depend on. These trips are also a great opportunity to focus on and discuss what matters to us.
