Grab your backpack, hiking boots, pulk, and touring skis! Through many trips, you’ll become confident in the mountains before we take on the highlight of the year - an expedition to Finnmarksvidda.

Fjell og ekspedisjon has been a cornerstone of Lofoten Folkehøgskole since 1984, making it the school’s most traditional program. Here, we spend extensive time in the mountains, gradually mastering the art of efficient and smooth long-distance travel with touring skis and pulks.

With around 45 nights spent outdoors, we truly experience the elements. We embark on numerous hikes in the stunning Lofoten mountains, while our longer winter expeditions take us across Finnmarksvidda and the wild mountains near the Swedish border.

What Will You Learn?

  • Trip planning and leadership
  • Preparation and drying of expedition food
  • Navigation, map reading, and orientation
  • Gear making and repair
  • Safe travel in mountains and on glaciers
  • More practical outdoor tricks than you thought existed

Fjell og ekspedisjon guarantees powerful nature experiences. Throughout the year, we systematically build the knowledge and skills necessary to fully appreciate long expeditions. The camaraderie and teamwork we develop make us stronger. We may not move mountains, but we will climb them with greater ease.

Our journeys take us far north. A year above the Arctic Circle offers everything from blood-red skies to northern lights and starry nights. We seek knowledge about nature—how to use it, respect it, and preserve it. Our experiences in the wild prepare us for even greater adventures in the future.

Our goal is plenty of fellowship, skills and traditional outdoor living, all through the dark winter days, and into the white nights. There will be challenges like biking, telemark skiing, peak hiking, climbing, hunting and fishing. You will be instructed in the making of necessary equipment, first aid, security, scouting, guiding and how nature and culture interwine.

We offer major subjects within these areas:
Outdoor life: * Mountaineering * Telemark/ Climbing * Lofoten
Photography: * Natur * Pro
