Experience Viking history up close in Nordfjordeid! Immerse yourself in Norway’s heritage, learn how Vikings lived, and row the Myklebust Ship during its launch.

The Viking Life course offers outdoor skills, self-sufficiency, and traditional crafts. You’ll learn to harvest and create from the fjords, mountains, and sea. Join local trips with fishing, campfires, and wild cooking.

In spring, you’ll take part in something truly special – rowing the Myklebust Ship at its launch. This is Norway’s largest reconstructed Viking ship and a major event. We work closely with Sagastad, the new Viking centre on the west coast.

At Fjordane Folk High School, you’ll discover how Vikings lived, thought, and travelled. Some of the things you’ll experience:

🎒 A Viking expedition to Iceland and local trips in Western Norway.

🚣‍️ Rowing the Myklebust Ship at its launch in April.

⛺ Hosting a Viking market and setting up camps with local Vikings.

⚔ Training in historical weapons combat and Icelandic glíma wrestling.

🛡 Games, battles, historical roleplay, and music.

🥔 Developing our own Viking settlement.

You’ll also take on the role of a craftsman, making everything from your own cutlery and tablet-woven bands to Viking shoes. Work with metal, wood, glass, leather, and clay to create authentic Viking artefacts.

For Vikings, horses were vital for travel and work. Our school has three equestrian courses and close ties with the Norwegian Fjord Horse Centre. That means you can explore horse-related electives – or choose something entirely different!

Between the rough North Sea and the majestic Jostedalsbreen glacier lies our folk high school – nestled in what we fondly call our "Heartplace". Nordfjordeid is just the right size. Big enough to offer everything you need, small enough to feel like it is all yours.

With 11 exciting courses, you will have the chance to discover new sides of yourself, try things you never have done before – or delve deeper into what you already love. Our dedicated teachers are passionate about their fields and want you to feel the same excitement.

Maybe your dream is to stand on a stage – as a circus artist, singer, or actor? Maybe you want to immerse yourself in the Viking history? Maybe you want a horse of your own or to work with horses? Maybe you love creating art with your hands or want to give new life to your grandmother’s old dress?

Or maybe you simply want to experience the raw nature of Western Norway and learn to stand on your own two feet? At Fjordane Folk High School, you can do all this while making a difference. 💚

Throughout the year, we participate in projects that give back to others, fostering a warmer, more inclusive community. One highlight is our study trip to the Philippines, which is part of our "Project Philippines" initiative.

Join us in creating your best year, filled with growth, joy, and friendship.
