Jazz Program at Sund Folk High School – Spring 2026 Half-Year Course

The jazz program at Sund Folk High School has a long tradition of jazz education, and many of our finest and most celebrated musicians in jazz and improvised music have studied here.

Half-Year Course for Former Folk High School Students

In the spring of 2026, Sund Folk High School will offer a half-year course for students who have previously completed a full-year folk high school course or an equivalent program.

Ear-Based Learning

This course will focus on ensemble work, rhythmics, ear training, and jazz theory. Our teaching approach is ear-based, allowing students to explore various harmonic, melodic, and rhythmic concepts with improvisation and jazz as the foundation.

Students will also develop their instrumental skills, deepen their understanding of different genres, and refine their personal musical expression

Preparation for Higher Music Education

This course serves as both an intensive specialization in jazz and improvisational music and a preparatory program for entrance exams to higher music education.

Beyond the core jazz curriculum, students will participate in elective courses, the school choir, and Saturday seminars covering topics such as democracy, citizenship, politics, nature and the environment, life skills, and health.
