Join a year full of challenges and adventures – from mountain hikes and surfing to backpacking, cultural exchange, and aid work. You'll gain new perspectives and memories for life.

Challenge Explore is for those who are curious about the world – and themselves. Through outdoor life, teamwork, and travel, you’ll learn to handle what’s new and unknown, and discover how much you can achieve when you dare to try.

You’ll sleep under open skies, spend a solo night in the forest, go on mountain hikes, paddle, bike, and cook meals over the fire. You'll be challenged in ways that require both teamwork and courage.

A key focus is cultural understanding and aid work. Throughout the year, we support the orphanage Baan Chivit Mai in Thailand through fundraising and awareness. On our study trip, we visit the orphanage and meet the children and the people behind the project.

We travel on a 4-week backpacking trip to Australia and Asia. In Australia, we visit Sydney, Bondi Beach, national parks, and Uluru at sunrise. You’ll surf, snorkel, and maybe meet a kangaroo or a koala. In Asia, we explore temples, markets, villages, and local street food. We may ride tuk-tuks or visit elephant-friendly centers. Through real encounters, you’ll gain insight into both differences and similarities across cultures.

At home, we use local nature for hikes, campfires, and winter activities. You’ll gain basic outdoor skills and confidence in planning and leading trips. Most importantly, you’ll be part of a close-knit community where it’s easy to be yourself—and grow.

At Bakketun, you’ll get to explore your interests, try new things and become part of a warm, inclusive community. Early in the school year, we go on a shared trip to Spain – the perfect way to get to know each other and kickstart an unforgettable year.

You’ll meet teachers who care, support you and encourage you to take chances. You’ll have space to reflect, discover what matters to you, and grow both personally and academically. A year at Bakketun gives you direction, confidence and meaningful experiences – preparing you for further studies, work, and life ahead.

Explore and combine

Choose between several exciting programs and a wide range of electives. Are you active and adventurous, or creative and curious? You don’t have to choose one or the other – at Bakketun, you can combine, explore, and find your own balance.

We’re surrounded by mountains, forest, sea and small-town life. You’ll feel the thrill of a mountain hike, the peace of the woods, the wind on a surfboard and the laughter around a campfire. Some days challenge you – others are just about enjoying the moment together.

A real community

What students remember most about Bakketun is the people. You’ll be part of a safe and supportive community where everyone matters. You’ll make friends to laugh with, grow with, and share everyday life with – friends who cheer you on when you try something new.

You’ll live close to others, share meals, trips, and everyday moments. The community you become part of leaves a mark – and often lasts a lifetime.

Welcome to Bakketun – a year that might mean more than you expect.

I’m so grateful for Bakketun. I’ve learned to understand myself and my limits better, thanks to a year full of challenges, diversity, and acceptance from everyone! The big trip was a highlight, but everyday moments were just as fun and meaningful.
