Some schools are founded on Christian ideology, while others are not based on one particular belief or faith.
Most Christian folk high schools are either owned by or closely connected with Christian organisations. At Christian folk high schools, the teaching and the rest of the school’s programme are based on a Christian worldview. Christianity is a mandatory subject at some of these schools, and many arrange voluntary get-togethers with Christian content, such as bible study groups and meetings.
In general, liberal folk high schools are not founded on a particular faith or worldview. The schools’ core values are tied to established values common in Norwegian culture and in human rights.
The wording of these core values and the way they are reflected in school life may vary. Liberal folk high schools are owned by foundations, organisations or counties.
Both liberal and Christian folk high schools welcome all students, regardless of their faith or religious beliefs.
